A gearbox or differential unit, or an intermediate supporting bearing for a propeller shaft, has a shaft element (1; 101) extending therefrom with a portion provided with axis-parallel ball-receiving tracks (4; 104) to constitute the inner member of a universal joint. The joint further comprises an outer member (8; 108) with axis parallel ball-receiving tracks (9; 109), and torque transmitting balls (5; 105) engaging the tracks in the joint members. The outer joint member preferably has stops (10, 11; 110, 111) to limit movement of the balls along the tracks therein to a distance less than the movement of the balls possible along the tracks in the shaft element. <IMAGE>
