A device for automatically closing and releasing the jacket window (18) of a standard diskette contains a cutout (28) of a thin sheet material, from which a slider (40) and a slider guide (36, 38) are cut out by a stamping tool. A thin spring (70) biases the slider (40) into a position which closes the jacket window (18). By the effect on an activating section (48) of the slider (40), the slider can be moved against the force of the biasing spring (70), so that a window (46) in it is aligned with the jacket window (18). <IMAGE>
