<p>PURPOSE:To readily cut a heavy-gage workpiece, by providing a streak in the shape to be cut on one surface of a workpiece, such as glass, placing the workpiece with the surface having the streak down on a specific plane table, placing a ribbon-like pressurizing piece along the above-mentioned streak on the opposite surface of the workpiece and applying a pressing load to the pressurizing piece. CONSTITUTION:A streak (N) in the shape to be cut is previously formed on one surface of a workpiece 2 consisting of a glass material, etc., with a tool, such as diamond cutter, and the workpiece 2 is then placed on a plane table 3 (e.g. made of a synthetic polymer) having a lower Young's modulus than that of the workpiece 2 placed on a platen 1 so that the streak (N) may contact the surface of the plane table 3. A ribbon-like pressurizing piece 4 (e.g. made of a synthetic polymer) is then placed along the streak (N) on the opposite surface of the workpiece 2 and a pressing load (W) is applied to the pressurizing piece 4 to locally compress the workpiece 2. Thereby the workpiece 2 is cut at the vertical cross section along the streak (N).</p> |
