The solar radiation meter consists of a parallel sided box (1) which has its rear wall fitted with a window (2) of transparent glass under which is a cylindrical dial (3) carrying a scale (4) graduated in numbers from 1 to 6. These numbers correspond to the protection indices of anti-solar products such as creams for skin protection. A galvanometer pointer (5) moves over the scale. The galvanometer is connected to a photovoltaic cell which is exposed to the solar radiation through the window. A filter may be used to allow passage of only the ultraviolet radiation. Variable resistors are used to ensure that the galvanometer is calibrated correctly when exposed to a calibrated radiation source. ADVANTAGE - Permits choice of anti-solar protection.
