The accelerometer is installed with it longitudinal axis aligned at least approximately with that of the vehicle. The mass sliding along a pivot is urged rearwards by the spring whose tension is overcome in the event of any sudden slowing by the inertia of the mass. Forward movement of the mass bridges two contacts wired to a circuit board carrying an adjustable delay circuit. The deceleration threshold is adjustable by rotation of a knob geared to the threaded end of the pivot to vary the deg. of compression of the spring.
