This apparatus involves the compressor and the enhancer, each of which compresses and enhances the dynamic range. The compander system for the dynamic range of information signals comprises series- connected circuits in cross-coupling. One circuit has a bilinear characteristic and consists of a low level portion with constant amplification up to threshold with variable amplification, and a high level portion with a constant amplification. The arrangement of the circuit intermediate portions is such that their amplification variations covers a larger range than each individual circuit. At least one coupling circuits connect information signal components in one of the compander circuits with a signal path in another circuit, in order to modify the other circuit action in dependence on the state of the first circuit.
