MICROBE AND METHOD FOR DECOMPOSITION OF MATERIALS WITH USE OF THE SAME

PURPOSE: To obviate the generation of harmful by-products by decomposing a chemical material by using mixed culture hyphae of plural microorganisms varying in classification. CONSTITUTION: The bacteria which secrete biosurfactants and the bacteria which are closely related therewith and decompose the target chemical material are brought into mixed culture, by which a kind of symbiosis relation is established between both, thereby a total reaction rate is increased. When two kinds of these bacteria are mixed and are inoculated to the medium formed by adding only PCB as a carbon source to an inorg. salt soln., the L bacteria secret the growth factors of the S bacteria and assist the propagation of the S bacteria and emulsify PCB, thereby increasing the contact area with the S bacteria. The symbiosis relation that the S bacteria decomposePCB and that part of the intermediate product is given as the carbon source of the L bacteria is established and PCB is rapidly decomposed and made inorganic.
