PURPOSE:To prevent simultaneously both a belt-slip and over-thrust of a V-belt- type non-stage transmission by setting the optimum load-oil-pressure in such a manner that the oil pressure becomes minimum in the vicinity of a throttle opening at which the engine-generated torque becomes zero. CONSTITUTION:In a continuously variable transmission 10, an oil chamber 16 for gear ratio control and an oil chamber 17 for load-thrust control are installed at the back of movable sheaves 12a and 14b of a driving pulley 12 and a driven pulley 14, around which a V-belt 16 is wound. In this case, the oil pressure of each oil chamber 15 or 17 is controlled by each control valve 43 or 45, respectively. In addition, each control valve 43 or 45 is controlled by an electric controller 60 via each solenoid 44 or 46. Meanwhile, the oil pressure of the chamber 17 for load-thrust control is adjusted to the optimum load- oil-pressure set in advance. At this time, the optimum load-oil-pressure is set in such a manner that it becomes minimum in the vicinity of a throttle opening at which the engine-generated torque becomes zero.
