PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate for agricultural chemicals, drugs and perfumes in a short time, under a mild condition readily and advantageously, by reacting an aldehyde or a ketone as a raw material under a specific condition. CONSTITUTION:An aldehyde or a ketone shown by formula I (R1 is phenyl or naphthyl; R2 is H, 1-14C straight-chain, branched chain or cyclic alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, phenyl, benzyl or thienyl) is reacted in the presence of both and acid such as hydrochloric acid and aluminum in water, an organic acid or a mixed solvent such as water-organic solvent at -0-100 deg.C, preferably 0-80 deg.C to give a compound shown by formula II. The amount of the acid used is preferably 0.01-10mol. based on 1mol. raw material compound shown by formula I and the amount of the aluminum used is 0.1-5 times as much as that of the raw material compound. The amount of the solvent used is 1-10 times as much as that of the raw material compound shown by formula I by weight in the case of the water solvent and 1-20 times in the case of the organic solvent. |
