PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound in high yield and readily, by reducing a 2-(aminomethyl)-4-halo-phenol as a starting raw material in the presence of Raney-nickel catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A compound [e.g., 2-(dimethylaminomethyl)-4-chlorophenol] shown by formula I (R1 and R2 are lower alkyl or R1 and R2 together with nitrogen atom linked to them may form saturated heterocyclic ring which may contain O or S; X is halogen ) as a starting raw material is reduced in the presence of Raney-nickel catalyst by using 50-400g, preferably 100-200g catalyst based on 1mol. compound shown by formula I to give the aimed compound. The compound shown by formula I is synthesized from a 4-halophenol shown by formula II, a compound shown by formula III and an aqueous solution of formaldehyde. |
