<p>PURPOSE:To prevent the adhesion of organisms on the surface of a substrate such as marine structure, by coating the substrate with a coating composition containing a vehicle component consisting of a reaction product of a specific silane compound (or its oligocondensate) with an organic compound having plural OH groups. CONSTITUTION:A silane compound of formula (R<1>)n-Si-(OR<2>)4-n (R<1> is alkyl, haloalkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl; R<2> is H, alkyl or cycloalkyl; n is 0-3) (e.g., tetramethoxysilane) and/or its oligocondensate is made to react with an organic compound having two or more OH groups in one molecule (e.g., ethylene glycol) and the reaction product is used as a vehicle component of a coating composition. Adhesion of organisms can be prevented by coating a substrate with the coating composition.</p> |
