PURPOSE:To enable a pitch between characters to be optionally established without being followed by decrease of a throughput, by a method wherein contents of a plurality of bits are read at one time when a pattern data is read from a memory, and the number of synchronizing signals is compared with a width of a character and a width of a space between characters which have been preliminarily determined when stored data is bit by bit outputted to a group of printing elements. CONSTITUTION:A DMA control part 3 transfers a printing pattern data on a plurality of bits basis from a pattern memory 2 to a parallel series transducers 4. A counter 7 counts synchronizing signals when the printing pattern data is transferred to the group of printing elements. Comparators A, B compare the counted value respectively with a width of a dot matrix (a character width) and a width of a space between characters (a character space) which have been preliminarily established. Then, a principal control part 1, when the counted value exceeds the width of the dot matrix pattern, fixes a printing pattern data to be transferred to the group of printing elements to 'zero'. Further, when the counted value becomes a value of sum of the width of the matrix pattern and the space between characters which have been preliminarily established, data transfer to the group of printing elements is stopped. |
