PURPOSE:To prevent the seizure between vertical rolls and a rolling steel material and to prevent the deterioration in the quality of a rolled product by providing idle rolls having a specific construction in a housing for bearing the vertical rolls of a universal rolling mill for an H-beam and bringing the same into press contact with the vertical rolls. CONSTITUTION:A longitudinal groove 4 is provided in a housing 3 for bearing a vertical roll (b) in the centerline o-o direction of the roll (b) and on the parting line m-m of the circle (g) at the cross section of the roll (b) in a universal rolling mill for an H-beam having the vertical roll (b) provided with a peripheral surface 2 having a crown 1. A U-shaped bearing piece 5 is provided in the groove 4 freely slidably in the m-m direction. An idle roll 8 provided with a peripheral surface 7 having a central recess 6 in tight contact with the peripheral surface of the roll (b) is freely rotatably installed to the piece 5. A slip is generated between the peripheral surfaces of the roll (b) and the roll 8 in the rotation of the roll (b) in contact with the rolling billet and the seizure on the peripheral surface of the roll (b) is rubbed away by the slip, whereby the generation of flaw by the seizure on the surface of the rolled material is prevented.
