Signal processing apparatus is described for processing a plurality of analogue signals from the detectors, for example, of a laser interferometer system. As can be seen in Fig. 3 of the drawings the apparatus uses one or more analogues to digital converters (AD1, AD2) to digitise the signals, and a look-up table or tables (LUT1, LUT2) into which are pre-programmed information such as signal strength data and interpolated position data. The digitised signals from the converters are passed to the input addresses of both of the look-up tables, which output the corresponding signal strength and position data extremely rapidly. The outputs of the look-up tables are latched and subsequently read by a micro-processor which provides the required information. The system is very flexible and extremely fast thus providing effectively continuous monitoring of the detector signals. |
