The invention relates to a device for transmitting digital, pulse-frequency or pulse-code-modulated signals in standardized format, having at least one carrier or clock frequency, in particular for transmitting pure audio frequency signals in the hi-fi range for stereo systems, CD players or the like, having high-luminosity light-emitting or laser diodes which are acted upon at least by one transmitting unit. The modulated light signals emitted by the transmitting diode are shaped (formed) with the aid of an optical system (5) into a convergent, parallel or divergent beam (6) and fed to an optical system (7, 8, 11) in the focal plane of which there is a photodiode which is electrically connected to a receiver in such a way that the image of the transmitting light-emitting diode can be imaged on the photodiode. The transmitting system is constructed as a duplex system and there is arranged at the focal point or in the focal range of the optical system both a light-emitting diode and a photodiode, which is respectively electrically connected with its transmitter or receiver. <IMAGE>
