PURPOSE: To obtain from animal sources a surfactant of pulmonary artery containing polar lipid fragments and protein fragments consisting mainly of phospholipids and useful for preventing and curing infant respiratory disease syndrome and adult respiratory disease syndrome. CONSTITUTION: This surfactant of pulmonary artery from an animal origin consists of >=98.5% of polar lipid fractions constituting of at least 95wt.% of a phospholipid mixture and protein fractions consisting mainly of a low molecular weight protein having 3-14 kilo dalton molecular weight. The objective surfactant of a pulmonary artery is obtained by minutely grinding lung of an animal, washing with a salt solution, filtering, centrifuging, extracting a surfactant using an organic solvent, then, washing the organic phase, recovering crude lipid fractions by evaporating the solvent and separating polar lipid ingredients mainly consisting of phospholipids from nonpolar liquid ingredients consisting of triglycerides and cholesterols by a gel chromatography. |
