PURPOSE:To obtain an anti-inflammatory drug suppressing side effects related to gastrointestinal disorder, containing a melanin-based substance obtained from ink of cuttlefish or octopus. CONSTITUTION:Ink of cuttlefish or octopus is incorporated with an alkalizing agent such as caustic soda or potash soda, adjusted to pH6-12, homogenized by a homogenizer, filtered by filter cloth, dialyzed and lyophilized to give a melanin-based substance. The substance is pharmaceutically manufactured by a conventional procedure as it is or blended with a carrier and an excipient for proper preparation and pharmaceutically manufacture to give the aimed substance. The substance can be made into a dosage form such as powder, granule, tablet, capsule or injection and a dose is 50-500mg/day per adult. Properties of the melanin-based substance; black amorphous powder; solubility; slightly soluble in water and insoluble in ethanol, ethyl acetate and benzene; melting point: >=300 deg.C; elemental analysis value: C 47-50%, H 3-4%, O 38-41%, N 8-9% and ash 0.06-0.08%; molecular weight: mixture of substance having 25,000mol.wt. and substance having >=160,000. |
