<p>A disposal system for used and possibly contaminated needles (18), scalpels and other medical devices, commonly referred to as ''sharps'' (18) comprises a device (10) for safely transporting the devices and a disposal container (11). The disposal container (11) is provided with a one-way valve (26) for controlling access to the interior of the container. The one-way valve (26) is preferably a paddle wheel (26) having at least one vane (27a, b, c, d) mounted in an opening (23) in a wall of the container (11). In use the medical device (18) is placed on a vane (27a, b, c, d) of the paddle wheel (26) and the paddle wheel (26) rotated to drop the device (18) into the storage container (11).</p> |
