A honeycomb body is described which is used for purifying exhaust gas of harmful nitrogen oxides. The honeycomb body is furnished with an interlayer (washed coat) on which cyanuric acid is situated. The coating of the interlayer with cyanuric acid is carried out by vapour deposition or by dipping in a cyanuric acid solution. Finally, the coating applied is slowly burnt on. In addition, an insert for an exhaust gas line is described which is composed of a mesh screen chamber in which cyanuric acid granules are contained.
