In transformers of this kind, a liquid-cooled active part consisting of a laminated iron core (5) and windings (4) is usually set up in a closed transformer tank, provision additionally being made of high-voltage bushings (10) and often of means for protection against damage by violence from outside caused by bomb fragments or relatively small projectiles. According to the invention, at least the side walls (1) of the transformer tank and the domes (9) of the high-voltage bushings (10) are reinforced by protective plates (3) which are arranged on their insides, consist of a special steel and are suitable for intercepting grenades (shell) or bomb fragments or projectiles from hand-held weapons. As an alternative, the protective plates for their part can also serve as wall parts of the transformer tank. <IMAGE>
