The drive apparatus has a driving mechanism 2 which is provided with two axles 6 for running wheels 7, 8. The running surface or the circumference of these running wheels 7, 8 is provided alternately with straight surface sections 9 and circular surface sections 10, the straight surface sections 9 or the circular surface sections 10 of the outer running wheels 7 being offset by 45@ with respect to the corresponding sections of the inner running wheel 8. By this means, a circular surface section 10 is always supported on one of the track plates 12, 13 which are pushed in the travelling direction. <IMAGE>
