A position-measuring device (M) shown in Figure 1 has a subdividing circuit (EXE) which contains in a memory (ROM) intermediate values for a signal period (C) in the form of a trigonometric table. The memory (ROM) is driven by a binary signal (K') which is formed in a switch unit (S) from sampled signals (U1, U2) and in an analog-to-digital converter (A/D). Furthermore, the switch unit (S) supplies a signal (G) which is fed to a controller (R) which controls the energy supply of an optotransmitter (2) in a sampling device (A). <IMAGE>
