The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for storing messages in a telephone PBX. The latter consists of a central controller, a control sub-unit (TST), interfaces (IF), storage devices (SP, SP1, SP2,...), which are assigned to subscriber terminals (T, T1, T2,...), and of a device G for generating standard messages. A first peripheral device (P1) is connected to the telephone PBX via an interface (IF). A first control command generated by the device (P1) effects the storage of a standard message in the storage device (SP1) assigned to a specific subscriber terminal (T1). The control sub-unit (TST) thereupon effects the display of a reference to the storage of the standard message on an optical display device (D1) integrated in the relevant subscriber terminal (T). The standard message and the display of the reference are cleared by a second control command. <IMAGE>
