The invention relates to an automatic torque converter which, like a vane pump with a rotor which revolves within a cylindrical working space of a casing about an axis of rotation eccentric with respect to the cylinder axis of the working space and has radially movable sealing strips which, during its rotation, rest in sealing fashion against the housing surfaces delimiting the working space. The eccentricity <<e>> of the axis of rotation of the rotor relative to the cylinder axis of the working space is automatically variable as a function of the occurring load, in particular in inverse proportion to the load.
