METHOD FOR IMPROVING PERFORMANCE AND DURABILITY OF TRAP FOR BLACK SMOKE BY INJECTION OF WATER

PURPOSE:To improve durability of a trap for black smoke by injecting water to the upstream side of the trap and preventing the heating of the trap at a time for combustion of black smoke in the trap for removing black smoke in exhaust gas. CONSTITUTION:Black smoke discharged from an engine 1 is collected in a black smoke trap 5 provided on the midway part of exhaust pipes 3, 4 via an exhaust manifold 2. Black smoke in the trap 5 is ignited by change of combustion condition of the engine or a previously provided auxiliary ignitor and burned in the trap. The temp. in the trap is detected with a temp. measuring device 6 and when this temp. in the trap reaches the prescribed temp. or above, a water injector 7 is actuated to prevent the heating of the trap. As an injecting place of water, any part of the exhaust manifold 2 and the exhaust pipe 3 may be used as long as dispersion of water is uniformized and water is changed into steam.
