<p>The ring binding mechanism (20) includes one or more partial rings (22) which are slidably mounted in arcuate tracks in a base plate member for rotational movement between a loaded position wherein an opening between the ends of the rings (22) is accessible to install or remove sheets of paper or the like and a loaded position wherein the opening is located beneath the surface of the base plate member (24). The tracks, base plate member (24), and rings (22) include parts which cooperate to releasably lock the rings (22) in the loaded position. In one embodiment, the ring binding mechanism (20) is installed on a one-piece cover (26) including a spine section (126) defined between laterally spaced hinged sections (120, 122). The spine section (126) is either mounted directly on the base plate member (24) or sandwiched between the base plate member (24) and a back plate member (28) which are secured together with snap-in fingers (100). The binder can be transported in an unassembled condition and assembled at the point of use by the user.</p> |
