The invention relates to a method and a device for monitoring and controlling gasification plants for gasifying pulverulent solid fuels, preferably for pressurised powder gasification with a boiling-water cooling system. The aim of the invention is a method and a device for monitoring and controlling plants for gasification according to the partial oxidation principle, which is independent of the cooling system of the gasification reactor and which is especially suitable for gasification reactors with boiling-water cooling. The invention is based on the object of obtaining, independently of the selected cooling system of the gasification reactor, a signal which is representative of the reaction conditions instantaneously prevailing in the gasification reactor, in particular temperature conditions, and which, with respect to the course in time, is suitable as a guide variable for monitoring and controlling the gasification process. According to the invention, the object is achieved in such a way that, in the wall of the gas outlet duct and annularly surrounding the free cross-section thereof, a measuring cooling surface bearing a flow of cooling fluid is arranged and the heat flux transferred from the crude gas stream to this measuring cooling surface is determined by measuring the quantity of cooling fluid flowing per unit time through the measuring cooling surface and the difference of the cooling fluid temperature at the inlet and outlet of the measuring cooling surface is determined, and the product thereof is formed.
