PURPOSE:To obtain a reflection type liquid crystal display device wherein the shadow of the displayed liquid crystal layer is inconspicuous, by using an active matrix substrate and a glass opposite substrate of extremely thin thickness. CONSTITUTION:A TN type liquid crystal 8 is sealed between a transparent substrate 1 disposed in matrix-like with a switching element consisting of a thin film transistor (a symbol 2 is a channel part, 3 is a source or drain electrode, 4 is a gate electrode, 5 is an insulation film, 6 is metallic layer), a picture element circuit consisting of a driving transparent electrode 7, etc. and a glass counter substrate 26 which is provided with a transparent conductive film 10 over the entire surface and has the thickness smaller than the above-mentioned substrate. A polarization plate 11 is disposed on the outside of the substrate 1 and a polarization plate 12 and a reflection plate 13 on the outside of the substrate 26, whereby a liquid crystal display device is obtd. The distance from the boundary between the liquid crystal 8 and the substrate 26 up to the reflection surface of the plate 13 is preferably set at <=2 times of the pitch of the picture element circuits on the substrate 1. |
