PURPOSE: To produce nonwoven fabric having excellent flexibility and uniformity and having high apparent density and inextensional feeling by blending highly shrinkable fibers, non-shrink fibers and thermally joining fibers for heat-welding one of above two kinds of fibers to form blended web, by subjecting it to interlacing treatment and then by heat-treating it. CONSTITUTION: This nonwoven fabric suitable for artificial leather is produced by the following steps. (1) blending (A) (preferably 35-90 wt.%) highly shrinkable fiber (preferably a thermoplastic fiber shrinking by >=30% in hot water at 70 deg.C), (B) (preferably 55-5 wt.%) non-shrink fiber (preferably a thermoplastic fiber shrinking by <=5% in hot water at 70 deg.C or having self-extensibility) and (C) (preferably 2-10 wt.%) thermally joining fiber (where its thermally joining component preferably has <=180 deg.C melting point) for heat-welding one of the components A and B; (2) subjecting the blended staple fibers to opening treatment and laminating the products to form web, followed by subjecting the web to interlacing treatment; and (3) heat-treating the entangled web and also preferably its pressure treatment. |
