PURPOSE: To provide a device for acting as a muscle tissue by providing a means for supplying fluid pressure to an elastomeric foam, a tubular cord, a semi-rigid tubular armor, an anchor means, an end point means for closing the end of the tubular cord, a tendon means and a non-compression cable armor. CONSTITUTION: Respective pneumatic tendons 30 are provided with a stretched foam 32 constituted of a flexible elastomer closed tube and covered with the tubular cord 34 constituted of many fibers or filaments 35 helically wound so as to be crossed at a cord angleθ. When pressure is supplied through a conduit 36 to the foam 32, the foam is expanded and stretched in an outer direction and the cord is forced to expand in a radial direction. Then, until the cord 34 is made equal to the inner diameter of the armor 40 or the contraction of the length in an axial direction of the cord 34 is balanced with tensile force on a cable 24, the expansion is continued. When the pressure is released from the conduit 36 and incorporation with the foam 32 is performed, the tendon is loosened and the tensile force on the cable 24 stretches the foam 32 and the cord 34 in an end direction. Thus, the device for acting as the muscle tissue is obtained.
