<p>The invention relates to a method and a device for treating waste containing hydrocarbons, and for treating vegetable and animal fats. The treatment can take place either on an open-air treatment area or by means of a device. In both cases, an exothermic reaction is obtained by adding to the product to be treated an aggregate (broken rocks) of anhydrous calcium oxide, of which less than 3 % of the grains have a size equal to 3 mm. A cover accelerates the reaction by preventing heat losses. The device essentially consists of a V-shaped vessel (2) topped by a cover (10) serving to distribute the aggregate, to contain the reaction, permitting a saving on additive, and to protect the mixture against the effects of weather and splashes during the displacement of the device. A rotor (4) interacts with a pair of rotors (5) and (6) in order to mix and homogenise the mixture.
