Hydantoin derivs., useful for diabetes with complications, were prepd.. Thus, a mixt. contg. 150mM dl-spiro-(6-methylthiochroman- 4,4'-imidazolidin)-2',5'-dione, 600ml 50%-MetOH and 3.5g NaI was stirred for 16hr at room temp. (pH=4.0) and extd. with ethyl acetate to give 3.9g spiro-(6-methylsulfinyl-chroman-4,4'imidazolidin)-2',5'- dione (yield=92%).
