PURPOSE:To considerably shorten the retrieval time, by providing a means which uses a part of compressed data stored in a storage device to generate rough pictures at the time of the selection of a desired picture. CONSTITUTION:Only low frequency area part data of all pictures corresponding to a retrieval identification code or the like are read out from an optical disk device and are used to rough pictures, and a desired picture is selected from rough pictures. Consequently, compressed data of unnecessary data is not reproduced because only selected picture data is read out from the optical disk and compressed data is reproduced. Thus, desired picture data is efficiently retrieved and read out. |
