PURPOSE:To obtain a battery separator felt having fiber deterioration preventing capability in an alkali/ozone system by using felt made of polyamide fibers containing a dithiocarbamate compound or a hindard phenol compound. CONSTITUTION:Felt for separator is made with a nonwoven fabric or cloth of polyamide fibers. A dithiocarbamate derivative as shown in the formula I (where, R1, R2 are hydrogen, hydrocarbon group, or benzene nucleus, n is 1-4, and M is iron, zinc, or an alkali metal) or a phenol derivative as shown in the formula II (where, R3, R4 are hydrocarbon group, X is S or C, and N' is 2 if X is S, or 4 if X is C), each of which has a melting point of less than 100 deg.C, is dissolved in a solvent such as methanol, and diluted with water to form a 0.5-10% dispersion. The felt is treated with this dispersion by boiling the dispersion at less than 70 deg.C for 10 minutes or more to adsorb the derivative in the polyamide fibers. By using this felt, the deterioration of the fiber in an alkali/ozone system is prevented and the life of an alkaline primary battery is increased. |
