PURPOSE:To reduce hardware for vertical-horizontal conversion of character data, by subjecting character data read from a memory to vertical-horizontal conversion, and outputting the converted character data to an external device. CONSTITUTION:A multiplexer 14 selects one bit of character data from one byte of character data on the basis of a count on a counter, and outputs the selected one bit of character data to a shift register 15. On latching 8 bits of the one-bit character data selected by the multiplexer 14, the shift register 15 outputs the data to a multiplexer 16. The data, which is character data obtained through vertical-horizontal conversion, is outputted to a data bus DB through the multiplexer 16. The character data thus outputted to the data bus DB is outputted to a printer device through a connector 12 and a connector 21, and is written into a line buffer in a RAM 25 by a CPU 23, upon which printing for vertical writing is started. |
