494,377. Floors; blocks. LAMBRICK, F. Nov. 29, 1937, No. 32843. [Classes 20 (iv) and 87 (i)] A pre-cast solid filler block for use in a reinforced-concrete floor is made of a concrete formed from foamed aggregate and is provided on its top surface with a rib 1 which is adapted to lie substantially flush with the upper surface of the cast-in-situ concrete so as to provide an area on to which a floor covering can be nailed. The foamed aggregate is formed principally from molten blast-furnace slag suitably treated with water so as to be inflated to several times its original volume, and, after cooling, is crushed and graded. One side 2 of the block is vertical, the opposite side 3 slopes back from the bottom, and the other two sides 5 slope inwardly from the top. Blocks of this shape are laid in rows, as shown, so as to provide V-shaped channels 4 in one direction of the floor, and undercut channels 6, which have base members 7, in the direction at right-angles to the channels 4. Concrete is cast in the channels 4, 6 and above the blocks so as to be flush with the upper surface of the ribs 1. Reinforcing rods are provided in all the channels, or only in the channels 6. Instead of sloping inwardly the opposite sides 5 of the block, each of these sides may be provided with a longitudinal recess.
