PURPOSE:To improve the wear resistance and seizing resistance of the whole sliding surface by depositing the alloy powder having excellent wear resistance and seizing resistance on the sliding surface of the sliding member, heating and melting the alloy powder with a high-energy source, and then nitriding the martensite layer and softened layer formed on the outer periphery. CONSTITUTION:The powder of an alloy of iron and the metals such as B, Cr, and V, namely Fe-B, Fe-Cr, and Fe-V, having excellent wear resistance and seizing resistance is deposited on the sliding surface 1 of the base material of the sliding member. The surface is irradiated with a high energy-density heat source to melt the iron alloy powder, and an alloy layer 2 is formed. In this case, since the martensite layer 3 having excellent wear resistance and poor seizing resistance and the softened region 4 having the hardness, wear resistance, and seizing resistance inferior to the base material 1 of the sliding surface are formed around the alloy layer 2, the layer and region are nitrided by a gas to form the nitrided layer 5 having excellent wear resistance and seizing resistance, and the wear resistance and seizing resistance of the whole sliding surface are improved. |
