PURPOSE:To improve the conversion of metallic silicon and the selectivity of the titled compound and to obtain the titled compound in high yield, by contacting the metallic silicon and a copper catalyst with a halide in liquid or vapor phase prior to the reaction. CONSTITUTION:Metallic silicon used as a raw material and a copper catalyst are pretreated by contacting with a halide (preferably organic halide such as methyl chloride) in liquid or vapor phase. The pretreated metallic silicon is made to react with alcohols (preferably methanol, etc.) in liquid or vapor phase in the presence of the copper catalyst to obtain the objective compound. The vapor-phase pretreatment can be carried out by heating a reactor packed with metallic silicon and copper catalyst at 200-400 deg.C and introducing a halide into the reactor. In the case of liquid-phase pretreatment, the halide heated at 150-300 deg.C is introduced into a reactor containing metallic silicon, copper catalyst and a reaction solvent. |
