PURPOSE:To enable printing in draft mode and thereby perform printing at high speed by changing the interval between a dot printing hammer and a platen, and at the same time, changing a paper feed amount in printing mode at the time of reversal of a hammer bank. CONSTITUTION:A controller 11 generates a signal which changes the single drive value (paper feed amount) of a paper feed motor in accordance with command signals DMP(draft mode) and OMP(normal mode). Further, an encoder 13 generates a signal which drives a motor 12 in accordance with position information for changing the advance/retreat positions of a platen 5. That is, the controller 11 supplies to a motor 14 a paper feed drive signal for transmission of, e.g. every two dots when the subject printer is set to normal mode for printing. At the same time, the controller 11 applies to the motor 12 a drive signal for setting a platen 5 to a normal position close to a printing element 4 side. When the printer is set to draft mode for printing, the controller supplies to the motor 14 a drive signal for transmission of every three dots. Simultaneously, the controller adds to the motor 12 a signal for positioning the platen 5 to a retreat position away from the printing element 4. |
