The invention relates to a device for continuous monitoring of the concentricity of a conducting wire with its insulating coating. The device uses the capacitive phenomenon between the conductor itself and the metal periphery of two rollers which rotate freely. Accidental variation in the thickness of the insulator causes a variation in the capacitive system, which is continuously converted by an electronic circuit into an appropriate monitoring parameter. The centring can be corrected continuously, without stopping the coating operation.
