WATER-SOLUBLE PRESERVATIVE AND ANTIFUNGAL COMPOSITION

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled stable composition having permeability, by using 2-(thiocyanomethylthio)benzothiazole which is a nonmedicinal preservative and antifungal agent and polyoxyalkylene styrylphenyl ether phosphates as a surfactant. CONSTITUTION:A water-soluble preservative and antifungal composition obtained by adding a polyoxyalkylene styrylphenyl ether phosphate or an alkaline metal salt thereof (5-40wt.%) as a surfactant to 2-(thiocyanomethylthio)benzothiazole (1-40wt.%) as an active ingredient and adding an organic solvent (the remainder, e.g. diethylene glycol monomethyl ether or dimethylformamide), capable of dissolving the above-mentioned benzothiazole compound and having compatibility with water. This composition is preservable as a transparent solution in a homogeneous concentration for a long period even if stored directly or diluted with water or an organic solvent without precipitating emulsified substances into a heterogeneous composition during storage.
