A briquetting machine uses a profiled plunger (10) to compress crop in a closed-ended die 16. The downwardly-tapering plunger protrusions (11, 12) and the opposed faces of the plunger (10) of the die (16), combine so as in operation to compress the material triaxially so that it bonds together tightly and durably, particularly in the core regions of the product. Rotary versions of the machine are also described. |
