<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a sharp image of a high contrast by providing a ferroelectric material layer holding a ferroelectric material in an org. material on an electrode on an insulating substrate. CONSTITUTION:The ferroelectric material layer 14 contg. TiBaO3 in polyimide is formed on the electrode 13 on the insulating substrate 12 and an electrode 15 consisting of Cr is provided thereon. Since the polyimide is an org. material, this ferroelectric material can be formed inexpensively by a spin coating method. A prescribed upper electrode is stuck to this lower substrate 12 and a liquid crystal is sealed therebetween to form an active device. This device holds the electric field impressed to the liquid crystal not by the time constant of the liquid crystal itself but by the spontaneous polarization of the ferroelectric material 14 and, therefore, the disappearance of the image information by the leak current of the liquid crystal itself is obviated and the sharp image having the high contrast is obtd.</p> |
