PURPOSE:To enable a meticulous surface treatment by executing rubbing successively by using >=2 kinds of rubbing cloths having different densities. CONSTITUTION:Transparent electrodes 3, 4 consisting of ITO films and oriented films 5, 6 consisting of polyimide, etc., are successively formed on the transparent glass substrates 1, 2. After the film 6 is subjected to the rubbing treatment by the rubbing cloth (e.g.: rayon cloth) having the desired fineness density in one direction 7 thereof, the film is subjected to the rubbing treatment by the cloth having the fineness density different from the fineness density of the above-mentioned cloth in the same direction 8. The films 5, 6 are thereafter disposed to face each other to form the cell and a ferroelectric liquid crystal is injected therein. The meticulous surface treatment is enabled by this method, by which the uniform orientation is enabled and the cell having a large contrast ratio is obtd. |
