PURPOSE: To connect two or more articles simply by forming the device with a coupling member of a shape memory effect material capable of arranging a closable space and a compressible member disposable in at least one of the articles connected. CONSTITUTION: A connecting device 25 is for joining two or more detachable articles such as the casing 26, end cover 27 and pipe plate 28 of a heat exchanger. The end socket 35 of the casing 26 and the rim socket 39 of the end cover 27 are covered by a compressible ring 46 and an external ring 43 to cover an end flange 30 of the pipe plate 28. The compressible ring 46 has side flanges 44, 45 and a diametrically closable space forming a semicircle portion. The external ring 43 is a cylindrical joining member of shape memory effect material. As a result, it is possible, if necessary, to detach the articles separately with controlled stress without damaging them.
