The invention relates to a heating boiler or a condensing boiler for a first and second heat exchanger, for heating up heating water in heat exchange with the burner flame or the flue gas and with a connection for the flow and return of a heating system. Furthermore, the invention relates to a method for operating a heating boiler. For reliable utilisation of the latent heat of the flue gases, irrespective of whether a high-temperature or low-temperature heating system is used, the invention proposes that a third, downstream heat exchanger (10) for a heat exchange of the flue gas with sucked-in outside air is provided, the outside-air path of the third heat exchanger (10) opening into the surrounding area of the heating boiler (1). <IMAGE>
