The ball consists of a pneumatic bladder with inflation valve, over which is an inelastic winding of fine thread which virtually covers the bladder except for the valve, thus limiting its inflation. Over this is moulded a layer of micro-porous, expanded plastics material which penetrates through the interstices in the cord winding, which remains bonded to the plastics material.
