A biologically functional material such as an enzyme or antibody is immobilised on an electrically conductive substrate by (1) either (a) precipitating fine particles of an electrically conductive material (e.g. Pt black) on to an electrically conductive substrate (e.g. platinum) and immersing in a soln. of the biologically functional material to absorb it on to the surface of the conductive particles, or (b) applying the soln. directly to the particles; then (2) crosslinking or forming a thin polymer film on the surface of the treated electrically conductive particles.
