PURPOSE: To obtain the subject composition excellent in blister resistance, dry strengths, wet strengths and coating workability and comprising a pigment and a binder by using a specific copolymer latex as the binder. CONSTITUTION: This paper coating composition comprising a pigment and a binder is obtained by using a copolymer latex having 0.005-20 ml/sec. Q value measured under the condition of 100 deg.C, 50 kg/cm<2> , 1 mm×1 mm nozzle size and <55% of toluene-insoluble component as the binder. The copolymer latex is obtained by polymerizing in emulsion a monomer mixture comprising 20-50 wt.% of (A) an aliphatic conjugate diene-based monomer (e.g. 1,3-butadiene, etc.), 0-40 wt.% of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid ester monomer (e.g. methyl acrylate, etc.), 5-60 wt.% of an aromatic vinyl-based monomer (e.g. styrene, etc.), and 0-30 wt.% of (E) a vinyl cyanide-based monomer.
