PURPOSE: To provide a method for easily and mechanically separating extruded elongate members or wires by using a filler which is embrittled to a volumetrically sufficient extent or inherently fragile in nature. CONSTITUTION: This method densely packs rods 44 in a can 40 from the end opening, in such a way that they run in parallel to each other in the can 40, and fills the spaces between the rods, and between the rods and can walls, with powdered fillers 46, 52 and 54 which are embrittled to a volumetrically sufficient extent or inherently fragile in nature. These fillers are destroyed by a small mechanical force, after the rods are extruded into wires or elongate members, to facilitate the wires or the like to be mechanically separated from each other. |
